At home just before the programme!

Hi Friends
How are you all doing? Christmas holidays must have started for many of you. For me & my family, we are just counting days till this coming Thursday since it is just the last day before our holidays are actually starting. I really need some time to relax and work on so many stuffs which are pending for months now. Before the new year begins one more programme to go on 22nd of this month. No, I am not going to sing this song.
This song I sang somewhere around September. Solona sa sajan hai  is a song, I am grown up listening to.  This was recorded a day before the actual show by Alex, our Guitarist from Swiss (half British too, his father is British) on his Mac.  He just wanted to record it (he said he liked it  & at least I should believe that). I got it today itself. As usual Santosh, our Swiss Tabla player (of Indian origin) is with me in this video. Both Santosh & Alex are fun to work with. No microphone..so the audio is bit low. And, of course, you all can also see the glimpse of my naughty Adi jumping in between  in front of the Mac. Enjoy!
Until next, keep the faith..

Eid Mubarak!

Hi Friends
I love this song & Rahatji's singing is breathtaking. I tried to sing it because I really wanted to do so. The song & its lyrics, both captivated my entire soul, the moment I heard it for the first time. Such a beautiful composition. I would like to dedicate this song to all of my friends on this very special occasion of Eid.
Enjoy!
Until Next...keep the faith

Vedantic Durgashtami Videos Published!

Dear Friends
Every year we celebrate  Durgashtami here in Geneva at the Vedantic Center which normally includes a short cultural programme too. However, this time due to some unavoidable situation, we didn't get much time for planning  the  cultural programme. In fact, the songs were finalized  just two days before  the actual programme  on 15th of October. But, the programme went off very nice by the grace of the Divine Mother. I am also happy because the cultural programme has been published in the World News Web on day before yesterday that is 11th of Nov 2010.
http://wn.com/durga?orderby=published.

I will upload the videos of the cultural programme presented on the occasion of Durgashtami at Vedantic here too.
Also, I am looking forward to tomorrow's musical night arranged by Indian Association, Geneva. It would be basically Bollywood Numbers. I have to sing some three songs. So wish me luck for tomorrow.

Until next.. Keep the faith.

Vande Mataram, 15th Aug 2010, ILO Auditorium, Geneva

We got the opportunity to sing our National Song Vande Mataram on the occasion of our Independence day, celebrated at International Labour Organization Auditorium, Geneva.
Just to give it a new look, I sang the antara part as solo.

Our National Song Vande Mataram, which has played a historic part in the struggle for Indian freedom, is a poem in the 1882 novel Anandamatha  by Bankimchandra Chattapadhyay. In spite of all the controversies, it is still honored equally with Our national Anthem Jana Gana Mana and has equal status with it.
Vande Mataram is very close to my heart, not only because it is the National Song of our motherland India, but also because I like the composition and the melody of the song. This might be the reason why it still  attracts musical people to experiment with it again & again. Of course there are so many versions  already available, but it is widely believed that the tune set for All India Radio station version was composed by Ravi Shankar [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vande_Mataram].
Very recently, I heard a new version of Vande Mataram, Composed, lead & harmony vocals by: Joseph Thomas (Jo).
U can all hear to the new version at:
http://www.jocalling.com/2010/08/vande-mataram-2010/.
I am also posting it in my blog since I like it in its still a new version.

Until next, keep the faith..

Some Earlier Programmes

Hi Friends
Durga puja went off really nice and hope you guys had a wonderful time in the puja celebration. I too enjoyed a lot, although there was actually no time  to sit and take rest; In fact after months, I got some time to relax. At least there is no practice session for this week. So what I am up to for this week is to convert some earlier recordings of my programmes including the programmes of last year?  Yes, that is true. My handy cam is now full and in fact every time there is a programme  I have a huge problem of space. So this particular video is also of last year's. It was on the occasion of Durga puja at Vedantik Centre, Geneva & I sang it with one my didi here. From personal front, I like this composition a lot and hope you all too will like it. So enjoy!
Until next...keep the faith

Life Back in Action

Hi Friends
Its been quite late this time to be back on my blog particularly since I have not posted anything in between. Its apparently because of many reasons. But mostly I was relaxing with my family since it is summer and probably the best time for outings in Swiss. Other than that I was also busy in rehearsing for some music programmes. There are few stuffs which I would like to post in here. But it will take me some time to convert the raw files into the required format for uploading. Of course I can share my happiness with you just for now. The yesterday programme was nice. At least I should believe it was, after getting heart felt wishes from everybody soon after the programme. But honestly I have to see the recordings for any improvisation further.
So I will be posting the video updates soon. Just for now I am sharing the YouTube link of my part of the classical concert held on 22nd May 2010 in Geneva, Switzerland. I am really honored to share the same stage with other accomplished classical maestros of music.

Dekhecho Ki Taake by Shree

I am a big fan of Shubhomita and this is my tribute to her masterpiece "Dekhechho ki taake". I sang it at Barshobaran Utschab, Geneva, 2010, organized by both Indians and Bangaladeshis leaving in Switzerland. A Big Thank U to Chapal da, The Programme Co-ordinator and Mumu Di for the lovely invitation and encouragement to sing to such a beautiful audience. Thank u Arpita and Santosh for accompanying me over Synthesizer & Tabla. Love both of ur support. I really had a memorable experience with all the artists of both India and Bangaladesh. I am looking forward to this kind of programme in future too. Please let me know if you really have any feedback for the song.
Until next...Keep the faith.

Holi Anchoring Excerpts From 20th March Holi-Baisakhi-Eid-Easter Celebrations - Indian Association Geneva

Hi Friends
I am really sorry being inactive for a while due to my India trip followed by the Annual Holi Programme for Indian Association, Geneva. The programme went off really nice and I am kind of relaxed today. I have the recordings of the programme and I will soon post it here after converting the raw files. But just for now, I am posting my portion of the anchoring recorded during rehearsal. I have pronounced two words wrong due to a bit of restlessness to my mind. But I do not know if there are any others too. Let me know and I would really appreciate that.
Love you all...
Until next...Keep the faith.

Makar Shankranti, 'The Harvest Festival'.

Happy Harvest Festival to everyone
I have taken this photo soon after finishing my puja for the day. Since today is Makar Shankranti, I spent little more time than usual. Normally, it is a great occassion in most of the parts of India, but you really can get any vibes, if you are staying outside of India and that to in Swiss.
The puja thali and all other accessories like the bell, diya, dhup dani, kalash etc. have been given to me by my mother (we three call her Maa) during my marriage. It is a custom in the coastal belt of Orissa, wherein a mother gives 'Laxminarayan' and a set of all puja accessories to the daughter as a symbol of married hood. Normally, all married woman only do Laxminarayan Brat in orissa. My personal favourite is the kalash with the coconut which I picked from one of the shops located inside 'The Famous Baladevjiu Temple' premises.
I had grown up all those years as a part of all such great festivals and now hardly able to see many of them here, except some very known like Navaratri, Durgastami and very occassionaly Holi. Moreover, with the rapid modernization of our society, we hardly remember and understand the ethics behind all such festivals and coustoms. But nevermind, let us just assume, Aall is well...

Let's Talk Yummy!!

Spring rolls, A Sunday's 'Eye Candy'

I prepared these spicy and colourful spring rolls on last Sunday evening to bit the ever going snow fall in Geneva and to make everything look little colourful than all white!! Of course, I like snow fall but this time all is little more..
The other day I was reading about the world's healthiest foods, reasons?? well, obviously every body wants to look good at the end of the day. So, the journey continues 24/7 and all we hunt for something really magical and zooooom....Pretty woman!!
So to be very honest I am not here to discuss all those healthy stuffs, moreover there are thousands of websites, blogs and TV- shows for that. But the one thing which I could certainly mention is that we do try hard to maintain a strict diet plan until one day it just evaporates at the sight of some yummy, colourful, spicy, mouth watering..etc. etc.(I can really go on talking nice ) junk foods and after all those strong promises, we do love to eat such types of food at times. However, there is no harm until and unless we know the limit. So we had a great time eating those spring rolls and I will go on cooking these kind of stuffs, being a typical Indian. But just because I got to know something new and would like to share:
  • Include Winter squash as part of your everyday diet, if possible, you can really get them easily these days. Winter Squash is one of the richest sources of plant based anti-inflammatory nutrients such as omega-3s and beta-carotene, which are important for a strong immune system to help protect against colds and flu.
  • You can also include Mushrooms which contain Vitamin-D since we are hardly able to see sun light in Swiss especially in winter.
I believe it will help all my vegan friends.
Until next,
Keep the faith..

An Immature Shree...

This is a famous composition of Shri Goswami Tulsidas. I have heard the original by Lataji which is a master piece. I had sung this as an ingruatory piece in a programme at a very short notice and with an all time friend of mine?? My Tanpura. The recording is not up to mark. Next time, I will try to sing it properly so that all the murkians will come properly. I hope u like it. However, I always welcome comments, good or bad...doesn't matter.
Till next,
Keep the faith..

Tomorrow is Saturday!!

Good morning!!
I'm back and probably, a little very early in the morning. Come on! still there is time to go to the bed. Let's talk for Saturdays and Sundays!! Hmmmm.......Eating something really fancy and exotic, watching ur kinda movie and sleeping late... after all, what are weekends for? So, for the time being when I am in front of my system we can really be closure. Since I was busy in the whole morning today, more correctly, yesterday, so I thought of posting latter in the evening, but then Kirti surprised me when I went to open the door expecting my dear husband rather. She came with some cakes and chocolates and I was wondering at my sharp memory and that she has her birthday today..Kirti?? Well, she is a very small girl and daughter of a dear friend. So here I am posting late in the night. Now the moment of truth...I have been working on my blog and as soon as everything gets little perfect, I will sit on writing something about myself, my passion for music and so many different things which I like to do....For the moment enjoy the beauty and Keep the faith.
